VERIFIED 2026Prolific pays significantly more per hour — £9 to £15 compared to Toluna's £1 to £2. But Prolific has far fewer surveys available, and most are academic studies that require specific demographics. Toluna offers a much higher volume of surveys but at a fraction of the hourly rate.

VERIFIED 2026Getting paid to train AI is a real category of remote work, and the pay range is enormous. Prolific averages $30–$35 per hour for AI evaluation tasks, with a minimum enforced rate of roughly $12 per hour. Mindrift specialists earn $50–$100+ per hour for domain-specific projects, while generalist tasks pay $15–$30 per hour. DataAnnotation.tech pays $20–$35 per hour for most projects, and up to $100 per hour for professional work in law, coding, or STEM. Appen's CrowdGen platform is the outlier — while listings advertise $10–$25 per hour, real effective rates can drop as low as $2.20 per hour due to unpaid training and thin project availability.
